The extra I added was to try fleshing out an otherwise blank and unmarked universe, because without editorial license it would be very, very barren. If I did my job properly it would be as accurate as every source from the games as possible. In order, I went with canonical sources (every screen in the games that showed a map), then concept art sources (there were 2-3 concept art maps depicting the universe), then my own judgement, predominately fleshing out unmarked territory areas defined in the first two but not given proper names and identities. I also learned in gathering these details that sources from the games themselves can contradict one another (if you line up all the HW1 small loading maps it does not match the campaign map).

This has been the case ever since the beginning, because it was important to me to be as accurate as possible with all the information available. HW1 and HW2 offer snippets of cartographic information that I painstakingly collected and tried to integrate into the map to be as canonical as possible. The closest "official" one is the loading screens from Homeworld 1, depicting a universe only from the Exiles' perspective of trying to get home. That's part of the reason I made it, because none existed.
