The program provides tangible job skills that offer a sense of pride and accomplishment. Volunteers with bicycle experience are encouraged to help others learn repair and maintenance skills. The program is led by adult volunteers who serve as role models emphasizing recreation, health and education. The Green Bike shop, is located in downtown Waldport at Hwy 101 and Arrow Street (next to Espresso 101). Adult and youth volunteers work together to restore and maintain over 100 community bicycles.

Follow road, after crossing bridge into Charleston, stay to the left to continue onto Cape Arago Beach Loop. Open April – October, 10am-3pm.ĭriving Directions (All directions start from Highway 101)Ĭape Arago Lighthouse: In Coos Bay, head west on Newmark Ave (near Mill Casino), follow the road 2.9 miles until you reach flashing yellow light at end, turn left on Cape Arago Hwy. Its cliff top location is 245 feet above the ocean its tower rises 59 feet. It is the oldest standing lighthouse on the Oregon Coast commissioned in 1870. Located 48 miles south of Coos Bay, and 9 miles North of Port Orford off Hwy 101. Its sits on Bullards Beach State Park in Bandon. Built in 1896, decommissioned in 1939, the Coquille River Lighthouse was restored as an interpretive center in 1979. Located 20 miles south of Coos Bay in Bandon. March, April, October open Friday – Monday. May – September, open for tours daily, 11am-5pm. First illuminated in 1894, its light can be seen 21 miles from land, making it the strongest light on the Oregon Coast.
Located 59 miles north of Coos Bay in the town of Florence. Summer tours available, visit the Lighthouse Visitor Center next door. This is the first lighthouse sighted on the Oregon Coast. Note that the Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint is the former Devils Elbow State Park. Its completion in 1894 filled the gap between the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and the Umpqua River Lighthouse in Reedsport. Located 19 miles north of North Bend off Hwy 101. The Heceta Head Lighthouse shines the brightest beam on the Oregon Coast, and it was also the last lighthouse built in the system. In Sept of 2008, the land was acquired by the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw look for future plans to preserve this historic and significant property. There is no public access but there are great views from Bastendorff Beach County Park, the Oregon Coast Trail and the viewpoint on Cape Arago Hwy. The current tower was first illuminated in 1934 with a unique fog horn. The original structures built on this site in 18 were damaged by the weather and waves. We recommend you save plenty of time to explore and take advantage of the fantastic photo opportunities. Washburne State Park and follows China Creek to a meadow. The route to the Heceta Head Lighthouse is actually a combination of two hiking trails. You’ll find 5 of Oregon’s 11 lighthouses within a short driving distance of Coos Bay. The Heceta Head Trail is centrally located in the Siuslaw National Forest just north of Heceta Head and 10 miles south of Cape Perpetua. Oregon’s Coast has a rich history steeped in seafaring. Lighthouse exploring is an exciting and historic thing for the whole family to do.
